Esteban Alarcón Awarded an MSc in Acoustics

Esteban Alarcón successfully defended his MSc thesis in Acoustics and Vibrations at Universidad Austral de Chile.
His thesis, entitled “Control de ondas acústicas mediante modulación de simetría en metamateriales inspirados en válvulas de Tesla”, was carried out within the framework of the project Fondecyt Regular 1211310 and as supervised by Dr. Rodolfo Venegas.
The research focused on investigating the effects of geometric symmetry on the dynamic behaviour of Tesla-valve-inspired acoustic metamaterials. Through a combination of numerical analyses and experimental measurements, the study demonstrated how geometric symmetry significantly influences the formation and evolution of acoustic band gaps, affecting wave transmission and attenuation properties.
We congratulate Esteban on this important achievement and wish him continued success in his future academic and professional endeavours.
